Here's why Christians should create online content

christian content creation Jun 24, 2025

In every generation, followers of Christ are called to be salt and light in the world (Matthew 5:13–16). In our current age, culture is not only shaped in pulpits and public squares—it’s shaped on screens. Social media, podcasts, blogs, YouTube channels, and countless digital platforms have become the new public arenas where worldviews are formed, values are transmitted, and hearts are influenced. For Christians, this presents both a tremendous opportunity and a profound responsibility.

Just recently, it dawned on me that this is the start of my 30th year in pastoral ministry.  I’m honestly surprised at how quickly the past few decades have gone by.  When I started serving in this role, I hoped to impact others in their walk with Jesus through my preaching and discipleship efforts.  I even envisioned doing some writing and other things, but there was no way I could foresee the modern-day digital landscape 30 years ago.

Now I’m able to reach millions of people each year through my podcasts, blog posts, books, ebooks, videos, etc.  My ability to reach new people with the gospel of Jesus Christ has exponentially grown.  I used to think in local terms, but increasingly, the Lord has been teaching me to think globally.  Online content creation has become a major facet of my overall mission and ministry.

I think it’s vital for Christians to step into the world of online content creation and use it to impact the culture for the glory of God, and if you’ve been considering doing something similar to what I’ve been doing online, let me offer a few words of encouragement that I hope will inspire you in your content creation journey.

1. The Gospel Travels Where the People Are

In the early church, missionaries like Paul traveled on Roman roads to bring the gospel to the known world. Today, the “digital highway” gives us a similar path. Billions of people spend hours each day online, scrolling through social feeds, watching videos, and listening to podcasts.

If the gospel is truly good news for all people, it deserves to be proclaimed where the people are. Online content allows Christians to reach into homes, workplaces, and hearts in ways that were impossible just decades ago. A well-timed post, video, podcast, or blog may be the very thing God uses to draw someone closer to Christ.

2. Silence Leaves a Void

Culture doesn’t remain neutral. If Christians choose to stay silent online, that silence leaves a vacuum that will be filled by other voices—many of which are hostile to biblical truth, moral clarity, or redemptive hope. It’s not just that “bad” content will prevail; it’s that redemptive, truth-filled voices are missing from the conversation altogether.

Creating online content isn’t about dominating the conversation—it’s about being present in it. When believers speak with wisdom, grace, and conviction in the digital space, they become beacons of light in a noisy world.

3. Content Creation Is an Act of Stewardship

God gives each of us gifts—creativity, teaching, storytelling, wisdom, humor, and insight—not for our own benefit, but to build up others and point them to Christ (1 Peter 4:10–11). Online platforms offer an incredible outlet to steward these gifts well.

Whether it’s through writing devotionals, sharing biblical insights on social media, creating music videos, or designing gospel-centered art, content creation becomes an act of worship and stewardship. It’s a way to multiply the gifts God has entrusted to us.

4. Faithful Content Counters Despair With Hope

Much of the internet is fueled by anxiety, outrage, and confusion. People are overwhelmed with conflicting messages about identity, purpose, and truth. In this environment, content that points to Jesus stands out.

Yesterday and today, I received messages from friends who are struggling with despair.  One friend was told that his wife is planning to leave him.  Another friend is dealing with problems at work.  It’s my desire to offer encouragement to these friends or anyone else who may be enduring a difficult season of life.

A short post reminding someone of God’s faithfulness can encourage a weary heart. A testimonial video can offer hope to someone battling despair. A blog exploring biblical truth can anchor someone drifting in spiritual confusion. Faithful Christian content serves as a lighthouse in the fog of modern digital culture.

5. Digital Content Multiplies Ministry Impact

One of the most exciting aspects of online content is its exponential reach. A sermon preached in a local church may bless 100 people in a room—but that same message shared online can reach thousands across the globe.

Digital content doesn’t replace the importance of the local church or personal discipleship, but it does extend the reach of faithful ministry. Blogs, podcasts, videos, and graphics can be shared, rewatched, translated, and re-used, making them powerful tools for long-term impact.

6. Content Creation Builds Bridges for the Gospel

Not everyone is ready to walk into a church, but many are willing to watch a YouTube video, listen to a podcast, or read a blog. Online content can be the first step in someone's spiritual journey—an entry point to deeper questions, conversations, and relationships.

By creating thoughtful, relevant content that addresses real-life issues through a biblical lens, Christians can build bridges with unbelievers, skeptics, and the spiritually curious. It’s not about arguing people into the Kingdom; it’s about meeting them where they are and lovingly pointing them toward Christ.

7. We Are Called to Disciple the Nations—Including Online

The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19–20) calls us to make disciples of all nations. In a digital age, that mission now includes discipling through online means. Content creation isn’t just about evangelism—it’s also about teaching, equipping, and encouraging believers.

Online Bible studies, Christian education videos, theological blogs, and devotional series all help fulfill this call. Through the internet, we can walk with fellow believers across the world, helping them grow in faith and maturity—even if we never meet them in person.

Wrapping Up: A Faithful Presence in a Digital World

Being a Christian content creator doesn’t mean you need a million followers or viral videos. It means being faithful to use your voice, your story, and your creativity to honor Christ and serve others. Whether your platform is big or small, your influence can be eternal.

We need more voices online that speak truth with love, create beauty that reflects the Creator, and offer grace in a world that desperately needs it. If you feel the nudge to create content—follow it. It might just be God inviting you to step into your mission field.

So pick up your camera, open your laptop, or hit “record.” The world is listening—and eternity is worth the effort.
