Do something risky, but wise

getting started risk Sep 30, 2021

Life is full of risk. Every single day, we face risks, but some of those risks start to become familiar, and when they become familiar, they don't feel quite as risky anymore.

I'm in the process of doing something risky. It may work out and it may not, but I don't know the answer just yet. It's too early.

I'm in the process of launching a new podcast, new blog, and new membership. I spent the past five weeks building it, and I gave my self a deadline. I promised myself, my friends, and the people who keep me accountable, that I was going to launch it all by the end of September. I met that deadline and officially launched everything on September 29th.

Here's the thing, while I don't know how it's going to work out, I honestly expect it to succeed. I fully expect the podcast to grow, the blog to gain readers, and the membership to gain members. So I'm taking a risk to put this all out there, but it doesn't feel quite as risky as it would have years ago. Why?

Two reasons.

1. This isn't the first time I have launched something like this. I have another blog and it has a faithful base of readers. I have three other podcasts and they've been downloaded millions of times. They didn't grow overnight, but they grew steadily.

2. I'm offering something that is helpful. The experiences I have had, and the knowledge I have gained, allows me to feel confident that what I'm doing is valuable and useful. I'm going to save people from making years of costly mistakes. I'm going to show them the best past to the outcomes they're looking for. I'm going to help a lot of people launch their online platforms, and I'm going to make it fun.

So yes, I'm taking a risk to launch a new podcast, blog, and membership, but I feel really good about it and I'm not afraid of it failing. It will accomplish what it was meant to accomplish and it will help who it was meant to help. I'm completely comfortable with the risk.

And as I take this personal risk, I'd like to challenge you to do the same. If you have a valuable skill, or knowledge you can share with someone else, but you've been holding yourself back from sharing it, it's time for you to get risky and start sharing it.

Pick your favorite topic or skill and share it. Choose the way you want to deliver it, and begin building the platform that allows you to get your message out there. Write, speak, blog, or podcast. Ironically, the wisest thing you could do with your message might also be the riskiest.

And that sounds like a lot of fun.
